Demonstration of direct 5G broadband access from LEO to small aperture terminals

Status: active (2022-2025)

RAME is involved as the technology developer for experimental 5G VSAT ground terminals for the live demonstration of 3GPP Rel.17 compliant broadband access through a transparent bent-pipe network architecture. The activity, lead by Tyvak International as Prime Contractor, plans to launch a CubeSat by the end of 2024 and to perform an In-Orbit-Demonstration at the beginning of 2025.

ESA Inlcuser Activity Code 7B.069

Integrated wideband multiplexer for hybrid satcom/terrestrial 5G user terminals

Status: active (2023-2025)

RAME is involved as the main technology developer of the MMIC integrated wide-band multiplexer, allowing hybrid use of 5G FR2 FDD and TDD ground and space bands. Prime Contractor for the ESA activity is RINA.

RAME in collaboration with IMT (prime contractor) and  Università della Tuscia is developing a SDR-based platform for 5G NB-IoT via satellite.

The project stems from FESR Fondo Europeo di Sviluppo Regionale – Programma Operativo Regionale del Lazio “Riposizionamento Competitivo RSI” – Ambito 3 “Aerospazio” e “Sicurezza” “Automotive e Mobilità Sostenibile”.

STORM THz Detector

Status: ended (2021-2022)

RAME is involved by the SBAI Department (Sapienza Università di Roma) as the main technological partner for the design of a CMOS-based innovative THz detector cells array.

The finalized design has been submitted for fabrication in June 2021 in the LFoundry LF11IS.

Update March 4 2022: open cap packaged dies arrived, measurement results at SBAI have been completed.

Pluto in Space

Status: active (2020-)

RAME developed a prototype payload to be integrated in the Unisat7 platform (GAUSS srl Mission), planned to be launched in early March 2021.

The payload aims at the validation of the S-band NB-IoT radiolink between UEs ground terminals and a CubeSat Base Station deployed in a LEO orbit.

Tracking Receiver for MPR

Status: ended (2020-2021)

RAME in collaboration with Italspazio is developing a SDR-based platform for processing Mono Pulse Radar signal.

The project aims to achieve a reconfigurable platform for non-GEO satellites tracking receivers.

ESA NB-IoT4Space Activity Code 3A.1063

3GPP Narrow-Band Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) User Sensor Integration into Satellite​ 

Status: ended (Kick-Off April 1st 2020, final presentation held in Thales Alenia Space on July 27th 2023)

RAME is involved as the main technological partner in the consortium for the development of the ARTES Advanced Technology SOW (3A.106)​ European Space Agency programme. Prime Contractor for the ESA activity is RINA.

Easy Covid 19

Status: ended

Radio Analog Micro Electronics srl is contributing to the Easy Covid 19 not-for-profit campaign. The first lot of 3D printed valves is going to be dispatched at end of March 2020. Up to 10 couples may be fabricated in a day through our facilities. We provide the ready to print file for Makerbot Replicator series here.

RAME bid for LAerospaZIO (in consortium with ENEA, ASI and Consorzio di Ricerca Hypatia) is undergoing to evaluation by public commission. Public announcement can be found here. Project aims to the development of innovative Power Management Systems (PMS) in High Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS).


Status: ended (2017-2020)

RAME was involved as sub-contractor of Space Geomatica ltd in the upgrade of ESA Envisat RA-2 calibration transponder for the ESA Sentinel 3A and 3B SRAL instrument mission.

Field testings have been successfully performed during 2020. The transponder has been eavaluated ready for the deployment in the forthcoming S3 ALT-MPC contract.
